This week’s blog is a slight different format than usual… because it’s the one year anniversary of the Female Leaders On Fire podcast!

Woo hoo! When I started this 12 months ago I didn’t realise the impact it would have. Over the year we have:

  • Released 60 episodes from imposter syndrome to leadership lessons
  • Incredible guests on everything from flexible working, job sharing to menopause
  • Downloaded nearly 7,000 times across 32 countries
  • Weekly messages about how the podcast has helped

To celebrate I’ve had an exciting rebrand as we continue on our journey. So I’d like to introduce, the newly renamed podcast:

Women at the Top of Telecoms and Tech

Helping you show up, speak up and shake things up!

Why? It’s the industry I know, that I spent 16 years rising to the top. It’s where there is such a clear need, with many women still being the only woman in the room. It’s fast moving, dynamic and needs resilient, strong women to thrive to the top.

Over the year there have been plenty of inspiring thoughts and ideas, stories from my clients and interviews with my incredible guests.

But today I’m going to share 7 of my best bits and favorite leadership lessons from the past year.

#1 How to Live to Your Fullest Potential with Margaret Weniger

Margaret has interviewed women at the very top of organisations, across a range of professions to really understand what these leaders share. What do they have in common? What’s made them so successful? What’s helped them fulfill all that potential that they have? Through these interviews Margaret has produced five ways that leaders live to their fullest potential.

The first thing she noticed was the support crew. Essentially they all had a community around them. A very intentional group that included mentors, sponsors and coaches to support them and help them achieve success.

#2 Leadership Lesson: The Truth About Confidence

As part of my Leadership Lesson mini-series, I shared 5 truths about confidence.

If you are not feeling confident at the moment, or if you’re not feeling as confident in a particular situation, these truths will help you.

They’re gonna help you to see that actually, this isn’t just how you feel. It’s how everyone feels at some point in their career, or in their day or in a certain situation.

And that’s the first truth… you’re not alone, everybody feels the same at some point!

#3 Menopause Truth and Empowerment with Jo Fuller

Unfortunately Menopause is still an uncomfortable conversation for many, but we have seen a change. Thankfully, there’s better education now, and more and more companies are putting a Menopause Policy in place.

As one of the UK’s leading menopause experts, Jo discusses why as women we should be prepared and empowered through menopause, tracking our cycles and educate before we medicate.

#4 Coaching Mini-Series: Part 3 – The Benefits of Coaching for Women

I’m a big believer in the power of coaching. Obviously, as I am a coach but I also have my own.

Women at the top of organisations are often hyper independent, but everybody can benefit from working with a coach. The simple act alone of investing time and money in yourself will remind you of the value you hold. You’re worth it! And by investing in yourself, not only will you benefit, but so will everyone around you.

#5 Burnout to Balance with Amy Wilkinson

Burnout is a huge issue amongst women at the top. It can have very physical and real effects on you and impact your home life, relationships and health as well as your career.

There are symptoms you can keep an eye out for to help you identify if you’re on the path to burnout and plenty of resources you can reach out to if you need it.

The key thing to remember is to listen to yourself. Nobody knows your mind and body like you. Listen to what it’s saying and take it as a message.

#6 Asking for a Pay Rise

What I often see women do when they come to work with me is they’ve taken on more and more, their role has become bigger but there has been no change in their job title or their salary to go with it.

Really the theme is if you don’t ask, you don’t get.

If you’re not asking for what you’re worth, or if you’re not negotiating at the beginning of a job what you’re worth, that’s you not owning your value.

This isn’t that you’re doing anything wrong. It’s not that you are letting yourself down. It’s just to help you to know that it’s okay to ask and give you some practical ways on how to do that.

#7 Rethinking Redundancy with Eleanor Tweddle

Losing your job isn’t usually seen as a good thing… but this doesn’t always have to be the case.

Although it might not be what you planned, redundancy might just be what you need. It’s an opportunity for change and if we approach it differently, it can help us evolve… and so much more!

Eleanor Tweddle is the author of ‘Why Losing Your Job Could Be the Best Thing That Ever Happened to You’ and shares some top tips on how to rethink redundancy.

And to carry on the celebration, I have lined up a week of fantastic interviews with some brilliant and inspiring women over on the Women At The Top Of Telecoms And Tech podcast!

So make sure to subscribe so you don’t miss them! And please rate, review and share with anyone you think it can help.
