I’m your host, I’m Nick school CO, and I am the coach that works with organisations helping them to get more women into those most senior roles to really create a more safe and fair culture for everyone, and really driving that diversity and inclusion. So they are leading that positive change. So today is an episode where I’m just gonna be sharing a little bit about another subject area I’m gonna be covering in the new podcast. So this is all part of a new chapter for me, a new chapter in my business, a new chapter in my life that I’ll be sharing more about soon. And also just really recognising that I got a little bit out of alignment with just feeling connected to my core message and feeling that I was really having the impact that I wanted to. So when I took some time to reflect at the end of last year, realised I wasn’t feeling that same level of connection. So I did some work had some coaching sessions. Obviously, being a coach myself, I practice what I preach and realise that my message had really broadened out. So as part of that, we are going to be finishing the women at the top of telecoms and tech podcast, we’re going to be closing it on the 100th episode in a few weeks time. And after that, I will be releasing a brand new podcast focused on a slightly different area, talking about some new subject areas that I’m massively excited about that really helped me to talk a lot about finding your fire. That’s the structure of my programme, my core programme at the heart of why teach and coach and really, this has helped me to get my fire back, it’s helped me to refine that passion, that purpose, that energy to just to make bigger, bolder steps forward. And to really start, just know that the realise and see the bigger impact that I can have. So it’s it’s a really exciting change, but it’s also a bit scary. So it’s one of those scare sighting changes. So you, you know that it’s right, but you just take it a step at a time, and you just kind of trust, trust and believe in it. And just know that road that is meant to happen will unfold before you. So today we are going to be talking about another one of the subject areas that I’ll be covering in my content and on the podcast in the future. And another area that I’ll be working with organisations on this subject, Eric can always steps out beyond the corporate world, it steps back into wider society around the positive benefits of having more women in those more senior roles, and a more inclusive culture. So what are the what the what’s the impact on society when we have more inclusion and diversity and more women at the top? So what are the tangible benefits? What’s the impact on society? Why? Why does all of this matter? So areas we’re going to be talking about are things like if we map through from when you were young to now, so what have been your experiences? So what stereotypes did you face? So for example, if you’re a woman and you’re in a corporate career, you’ve gone off and had children come back into the, into your organisation? Was there an assumption that actually, you weren’t going to be as ambitious or you weren’t going to be as available, or you weren’t going to be able to have as much impact? Because you’ve had a child. So for example, so the focus really here is on the benefits of wider society. So the fact that there’s billions of pounds of untapped money from having more women in more senior roles, so they will have more money to spend, they will support more charitable causes more philanthropy, and they will be able to support more people in their family to really fulfil their dreams, they’re going to be really women that want to spend their money in a really socially socially responsible way. So buying clothes that are just really traceable, that have have ethical standards. And we know that there’s billions and billions of pounds of untapped money, just if we can get women to have be paid the same amount as men. And the impact that that will have on the economy of the world is just, it’s unbelievable, but not only that, but where are women spending their money? And if they’re the major decision makers at home and for themselves, where will they spend their money and is that more socially fair and is that in ways that are more equitable? and fair for everyone. So that’s an area we’re going to be looking at, we’re also going to be looking at the fact that more women at the top will inspire the next generation of girls really knowing that they can have bigger roles and more responsibility, they can truly fulfil their dreams. And also boys having responsibility to just watching their language and not saying things that are going to take girls away from that. And knowing that actually, their mums have had huge careers, and they can to whether they’re a boy or a girl. And that leads into really changing family dynamics. So how does that impact them on who stays home, for example, as more women become the breadwinners? And how do we support women in that sense, that may be their feeling guilty when they’re going out to work. Or knowing that there’s a shift in the dynamic of the marriage at home, for example, the relationship at home, also talking about just there being more brave and bold conversations, so more people calling out behaviour that isn’t right, or just being able to talk about challenging subjects a lot more. And being able to know that actually, it’s okay to do that. And not only is it okay to do that, it’s safe to do that. So it’s almost the wider impact on society. So the benefits the the potential for more money’s flowing into the economy, for breaking down this gender stereotypes for opening up new areas of work for future generations for young girls being able to fulfil their dreams for breaking down gender stereotypes for having more innovation in society, changing family dynamics, and all of this with the corporate world really leading that change by showing how gender parity and equity has this massive force for good. And it’s driving incredibly powerful, and positive change, not just in the world of work, but in, in the world in total. And this is something that I’m really passionate about, because I see it again and again, you know, what we, how are we still complimenting adults are we telling them they’re beautiful, and they’re pretty rather than they’re, they’re clever, and they’re dynamic, they’re ambitious, and if they’re bossy, or they bossy, or they just say they’re just a leader in making. So it’s that shift in language that I’m so passionate about is such shifting, what are boys playing with versus what girls are playing with? What assumptions are we making? Are we just assuming that girls always going to love unicorns and ponies and rainbows, our little boys are going to love going out, getting dirty rolling in the mud, being really physical. So it’s breaking down those sorts of assumptions. And it’s again, that shift away from stereotypes and assumption and bias thinking and sexism, and even some elements of misogyny, and it’s actually creating structures that are really going to allow the next generation to flourish as who they truly are, whatever that brings with it and whatever encouraging them to be bringing, like we’ve mentioned before, beyond authentic. So it’s not even just being authentic. And being yourself. It’s beyond that. It’s just stripping everything down, giving you creating a society in an environment where you can be who you truly are, whatever that brings with it, whatever your sexual orientation, your race, your colour of your skin, that you bring all of that with you. And actually, it’s safe to do that. And this is something that I’m really passionate about, because I think it’s underestimated that when we create that more inclusive culture. We underestimate the benefits obering, we underestimate the impact that it has on future generations. If we look at the gender pay gap, currently, that’s quoted at being anything from 136 years to 267 years. But what we know at the moment is our daughters won’t benefit and our sons won’t benefit and it won’t be our children’s children or children’s grandchildren, it’s going to be our grandchildren’s grandchildren’s grandchildren. Because there’s such a huge amount of time. If we continue on the road that we’re on to close that gender pay gap and bring all the benefits, and those bashing down of all the stereotypes and assumptions that are made, burning all of those down. That comes with it as well. So we’re also going to be talking about how childhood shapes you. What’s the language that’s used? What are the toys that are played with? What assumptions do we make at different stages of life for women versus men? What are the words that are used for women versus men? What are the labels that are put on women? What are the assumptions that are made once a certain person walks into the room. And the really the overarching theme here is really, as I’ve just mentioned, how do we make sure that we create a society that really has equity at the heart of it, the safe and fair for everyone? Whatever that brings with them? And how do we break down the mechanisms that are just really keep those stereotypes alive. So how do we help people change their language, change their assumptions, not just complimenting little girls on being pretty, but little girls who are bossy that they are leaders in the making, for example. So it’s might sound like my house is irrelevant. But this is part of just really me wanting to have that border message and me wanting to feel aligned with what I want, what what I’m doing. And knowing that every time I see the ripple effect of what I do day in, day out, I know every time I’m helping a woman to really step into that more senior roles in the organisation. Every time I run a leadership programme, all the things we talk about not only benefits that woman, but it also benefits people in their team. It benefits people who are their peers, it benefits those that are more senior to them, because they step into being really empowered. And really confident. It also benefits the organisation, because these women are able to step into more senior roles and cope with more be more flexible and have more impact. And it also benefits wider society. And it benefits a future generation. And they can go and share those tools with their children, and people and family and their lives. And all of that is just starting to turn that turn, turn the tide of just gender parity, just really creating more momentum and a more speed of change. Because it’s not just in the workplace. It’s more wide than that. And it needs to be more wide than that. And also the benefits of more women. Getting to those most senior roles is not only benefit in the world of work, but it’s more of a benefit society as well. So we’re going to be talking about all those different areas. And I’m really excited because this is the this is the heart of the work that I want to do is just noticing that impact for the world as a whole. And I’m not just here to be someone that just states, I want to change the world. But I’m, I’m someone that wants to be here changing the world. And I want to do that on a bigger scale and want to do that with more impact that I’m doing it at that moment. And I want to really drive lasting change forever. And not just a you know, a one off programme or a one off coaching call. And really own the ripple effect that comes out of my work. And the women that I’m I’m very blessed and very fortunate to work with, and giving them tools to have conversations to create for their peers and their families and people around them. Just a framework to have those challenging conversations around challenging assumptions, challenging stereotypes. And really knowing the positive impact of not just for them getting a bigger role, but also for their family for society. On a more wide level. I think it’s incredibly powerful. I don’t know if I’ve articulated it all completely in the way that I’ve wanted to. But hopefully you’ve got an idea of the sort of things I’m going to be talking about. And I would love to know what you think.
